Interactive word library
Invite your little one to follow along!
Words are extremely powerful, even for the very young. A strong vocabulary will help your child enormously as he learns to communicate, read, and write. It's crucial to share as many words as you can each day with him, and it's never too early to start.
We encourage you to read to your little one daily! We also provide two fun, effective ways you can share words with him each day: our Vocabulary word cards and our special series of computer-based flashcards: the Interactive Word Library.
Settle your little one on your lap and invite him to participate by advancing to the next flashcard! You or older children can click on the small forward and backward buttons beneath each flashcard to navigate through the series, but even babies can participate by pressing the space bar to go to the next word.
Important: This feature requires Flash Player (free). You'll need to click somewhere on the first flashcard to let your computer know you want to start using this feature. Once you've done that, you'll be able to navigate through the series.
- Interactive word library for infants: Your infant is picking up much more than you might think! At this age, he'll likely gaze at each picture and see random scribbles (the words). For this age group, we've kept the animation simple: each word simply appears in black text below the picture as Tracey pronounces it. Click here...
- Interactive word library for younger toddlers: Your toddler will probably get excited about the pictures and begin to notice the letters. For toddlers between one and two years of age, we've again kept the animation simple: each word appears in purple text below the picture as Tracey pronounces it. Click here...
- Interactive word library for older toddlers: Your toddler will continue to get excited about the pictures and notice the letters. For toddlers between two and three years of age, the vowels and consonants in each word are differentiated by color: purple for consonants, green for vowels. Click here...
- Interactive word library for younger preschoolers: Your preschooler may show interest in finding the pictured objects in his own environment. For preschoolers of three to four years of age, short phrases appear rather than single words, and the vowels and consonants are again differentiated by color. Click here...
